WOW Air Review
Is WOW Air the Spirit Airlines for Iceland?
I’ve heard and read this question in travel groups and travel conversations more than I care to admit. The truth of the matter is, WOW Air IS a budget airline.
However, budget does not = crappy!!
I recently flew WOW Air from Boston to Reykjavik, Iceland and then from Reykjavik to Paris and from Paris we had a quick layover in Reykjavik before heading on back to Boston.
Bonus: You can see the video about the cost of food in Iceland here.
I have to admit to you, I was a little skeptical because the Spirit airline comparisons had me a little worried. But you will be happy to know that WOW Air is NOTHING like Spirit….AT ALL!! The customer service in the airport and on the plane were superb. Everyone was friendly. The planes are fairly near and the flight was excellent.
One thing to keep in mind when it comes to budget airlines is, everything in a la carte. Meaning, you pay for what you need and want and nothing more.
Most of the people that I see complaining about budget airlines are those who do not read fine print/the fee policies and they get “shocked” when they have to pay more for their luggage or food than anticipated. It’s not because the airline is shady or substandard. Their business model is designed to let you pay for what you you need/want.
You want to KNOW that you will have a window/aisle seat? That costs..
You want a meal on board? That costs…
You want entertainment on board? That costs…
You want to bring multiple bags of luggage? That costs…
Your luggage is overweight? That costs…
You get the picture.
They don’t hide this information from you. It’s all spelled out in purple and white on their website.
I have to give WOW Air credit for making sure that their extra fees are easy to understand and clearly explained by utilizing large graphics and constant reminders.
One of the things that I have learned from flying over close to two dozen different airlines, is that they ALL have different luggage allowances and fee policies. NO two airlines are the same. They have different dimension requirements, weight requirements, number of bags requirements and the list goes on and on.
It would behoove you to take the time and read them and understand them clearly.
As I mentioned before, WOW Air does a great job of making it easy to understand and find their luggage requirements and fee policies.
Here’s a little warning…they do check and tag each and every carry on bag, to make sure it fits in their compartments. Don’t think that you can slide by with your oversized bag and it won’t get noticed. You’ll be disappointed and your wallet won’t be happy with you. That’s not the way you want to start your vacation now, is it?
With that being said, WOW Air gets 5 stars from me!!
I loved my experience with them and I HIGHLY recommend WOW Air to anyone considering taking a flight over to Iceland. Check out my review below.
